Victorian Vulcanite Cameo PendantSKU: 6993
With a beautifully serene expression, a woman's image is created in vulcanite on this wonderful Victorian pendant. Her lovely facial features and flowing hair show classic Greek influences commonly seen in cameos from the time period. Although not original, a vintage gold filled chain is paired with the pendant.
Discovered by Charles Goodyear around 1839, vulcanization of natural rubber was accomplished with the addition of sulfur. The material was used to make a variety of items such as vesta cases, jewelry, pipe stems, and combs to mention a few.
Measurements: 2-1/4" by 1-1/2", chain measures 18"
