An Ostby and Barton 14k yellow gold moonstone and garnet ring from the early 1900s is not only beautiful but was crafted by a company with an interesting history. The ring features a central moonstone. A stone known for its luminous glow (adularescence), With striking contrast, the moonstone is surrounded by garnets. The gold setting has an openness and lovely curved features. A hint of the style to come in the Edwardian period.

Otsby and Barton was founded in 1879 by  Engelhart Cornelius Ostby and Nathan B. Barton. Engelhart Cornelius Ostby was a master jeweler and tragically lost his life aboard the Titanic in 1912.  His daughter, Helene, accompanied him on the trip and she survived having been boarded onto a lifeboat. This association with this famous event makes Otsby and Barton jewelry more desirable to antique jewelry collectors.
