This majestic circa 1940s horse pin has been hand carved from wood and painted.The bridle is a combination of gold paint on the head and leather attached at the neck. The eye is glass. On the reverse the mechanism has been securely attached by pins and has a c-clasp. A wonderful example of jewelry made from alternative materials during the war years.
Jewelry manufacturers were confronted with a restriction on metal during the WWII years and resorted to materials such as wood, plastic, ceramic, sterling silver and leather.
