An Ostby and Barton 14k yellow gold moonstone and garnet ring from the early 1900s is a fascinating piece of jewelry with historical and aesthetic significance. The ring features a central moonstone, known for its luminous, ethereal glow (adularescence), surrounded by garnets that add a striking contrast with their deep red color. Jewelry from this period often displayed delicate motifs, moving towards lighter and more refined designs characteristic of the Edwardian style which is reflected in the openness of the gold setting and curved features of this ring.

The Otsby and Barton was founded in 1879 by  Engelhart Cornelius Ostby and Nathan B. Barton. Engelhart Cornelius Ostby was a master jeweler and tragically lost his life aboard the Titanic in 1912, adding a layer of intrigue to pieces bearing his name. His daughter, Helene, accompanied him on the trip and she survived having been boarded onto a lifeboat. This association with this famous event makes Otsby and Barton jewelry more desirable to collectors..
