Carved light yellow citrine quartz creates the revered scarab on this spectacular necklace. Black enamel accents the 14k yellow gold frame while a string pf pearls encircles the citrine center. Detailed gold leaves with a single four petal flower decorate the top. The centerpiece also serves as the clasp. The beads are heavily carved opaque citrine which alternate with 14k yellow gold beads. The gold beads were added at a later date, possibly to extend the length. It was most likely originally hand-knotted. The necklace has been restrung recently due to deterioration of the cotton thread. It should be noted that this necklace does have some weight because of the natural quartz beads along the centerpiece.

The fascination with all things Egyptian began in the 1800s and continued until the early part of the 20th century. It was fueled by the magnificent discoveries along the way reaching an apex after the discovery of king tut's tomb in 1922. Popular during its' time, this wonderful masterpiece of jewelry is an example of an Egyptian inspired jewel with the scarab motif.
