This necklace features shell-like forms rendered in sterling silver linked segments. Crafted in Taxco, Mexico. This region has a rich history of sterling silver craftsmanship. During the first half of the 20th century, silversmiths such as William Spratling and Antonio Pineda established their studios in Taxco.
The necklace bears hallmarks consistent with pieces made before the introduction of the eagle mark in 1948. This eagle mark included a number identifying either the city of assay or the individual silversmith. In 1979, the eagle mark was replaced with a new system using a combination of letters and numbers.
